Our Cold-Pressed Dog Food

A list of the ingredients for all of our recipes are found on their individual product pages. Scroll down past the "add to cart button" to see a dropdown labeled "ingredients." Click here to go to our product page

We make every effort to purchase US ingredients, and take pride in that! But, on occasion it is necessary to import ingredients to get a consistently high quality ingredients. For example, our Lamb is sourced from New Zealand, Salmon from Norway and our Chicken is from right here in the USA.

All of our ingredients must meet all FDA, USDA & State Regulations and our own high standards. We do add a small amount of additional vitamins and minerals to our recipes (much less than traditional kibble). Some of these originate from other countries, but there are no ingredients from China. The safety and quality of the pet foods we produce is extremely important to us and we continually test both ingredients and finished products to ensure we are passing on a healthy and safe product for our four-legged friends.

Nope! Our food doesn't need to be stored in the refrigerator. It is shelf stable but should be kept in a cool, dry place - usually a pantry is a great location.

Our food is formulated to meet and exceed the nutritional requirements for all life stages - puppies, adults and seniors! Puppies require certain nutrients to support their growth but those nutrients are also great to feed an adult dog. Many dog food companies will remove those nutrients in their adult formulas to save on costs but we believe we shouldn't be taking away healthy ingredients/nutrients.

Of course! AAFCO standards are a minimum requirement for a complete and balanced diet. We take pride in that we are exceeding those minimum requirements to provide a food your pup will thrive on.

The “natural flavors” on our ingredient list is a collection of fruits and vegetables where the flavors have been naturally extracted. Because it is a portion of the original ingredients, we are only able to list it as natural flavors.

Yes! Real meat is our #1 and most abundant ingredient in every recipe.

Nextrition cold-pressed food is softer than traditional kibble but still considered a dry, firm food. It can be "softened" up by adding some warm water to the bowl of food and waiting at least 30 minutes. This will start to break down the food into a gravy. You can see the breakdown process by watching the video here.

Safety & Quality

We test every batch of our food to ensure it is free from harmful bacteria like Salmonella and eColi as well meets our nutritional target. We won't ship out anything until it passes these tests.

In simple terms, we mix and gently press the ingredients together without high heat or steam to lock in the natural nutrients and flavors. You can learn more about it here.

Our cold-pressed dog food is made by gently pressing the ingredients together at low temperatures, which let's us keep a lot more nutrients compared to traditional extrusion methods. Freeze-dried dog food, on the other hand, involves freezing the ingredients and then removing the moisture through a process called sublimation, helping keep nutrients and flavors.

While both are great at keeping nutritional quality, freeze-drying typically results in a lighter, shelf-stable product, whereas cold-pressed food retains its original form and texture and is much heavier. You can read more about the process of cold pressed here.

The goal of cold pressed and air dried foods are similar (they both are looking to retain more of the natural nutrients of the ingredients that kibble burns off), but the process of making the foods are different. Air-dried foods blend ingredients together, shape it and put the ingredients in an oven. This oven circulates air and can get up to 180 degrees, this process will dehydrate the food.

Cold-pressed food blends the ingredients together and then they are pressed together without high heat or steam. Both types of food are shelf stable and don't require refrigeration. You can read more about the process of cold pressed here.

Some of our ingredients are gently cooked prior to getting cold pressed. This is to ensure that they are safe and digestible, such as our grains. Dogs have a difficult time digesting most grains unless they are cooked. Nobody needs a gassy dog.

Your Dog's Needs

Our customers think so! Your dog is getting the highest quality ingredients— real meat, healthy grains and vegetables. We don’t cut corners. And because our food is so nutrient-rich, your dog will need 30% less of it than dry kibble. This means more meals per bag!

We recommend taking a free 1-minute questionnaire to answer this exact question. It asks about your pup's age, weight, activity level, etc., and will provide a recommended serving size specifically for your pup. You can start the questionnaire by clicking here.

We can help with that! There are a few factors that we like to consider to provide recommended daily calories and serving size. These include age, if they are spayed/neutered, if they are on the skinnier or hefty side, etc. We have put together a short 1-minute questionnaire that will provide recommended daily calories and feeding amount for your pup. You can start the questionnaire by clicking here.

Of course, we actually prefer if you do. Nothing is more frustrating than placing a full order for something that your picky pup doesn't enjoy. You can place an order from our samples page by clicking here.

We get it, free is nice, but we need to charge a small fee to help cover some of our costs with this program as we are a small family owned company. Don't worry, we offer free shipping!

Take it slow. If switching from a kibble there is potential for more tummy discomfort during that time period as kibble floats and cold-pressed sinks in the gut which can cause more stomach churn. We recommend feeding smaller meals more often to allow more space in the tummy during the transition process.

Our food was designed specifically for dogs with a sensitive stomach. Cold-pressed food breaks down in the gut easier than traditional kibble and we have created our recipes with gut friendly ingredients such as pumpkin and probiotics.

We get it- sometimes our pups can be downright picky, and it can be a frustrating journey to find the right food. There are a couple of tips we suggest trying to make Nextrition a little more appealing. Add a little warm water to the food which will start to break down the outside of the food, creating a gravy coating which will help relase more of the natural flavors. You can also crush the food into a poweder and mix with water which you can use to coat whole natural ingredients that they like. Sometimes pups will warm up to a food once they have had a chance to try it.
